Now open: Portal with 180 websites of 50 Delhi govt entities

In order to ensure easy and hassle-free access to government information and services, Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister, launched a new integrated portal on Tuesday. This portal will host over 180 websites from 50 different departments and autonomous bodies.

Kejriwal stated that the new websites utilize cloud storage technology, which eliminates the risk of crashes and provides faster load times, enhanced bandwidth, and an improved user experience. He noted that the existing portal was developed in 2008 and was based on outdated technology. The previous websites used an old content management system (CMS) and servers, resulting in frequent outages and breakdowns. The new websites, however, are built on the latest technology and standards, and they seamlessly integrate with social media accounts of various departments.

Furthermore, the chief minister highlighted that the new websites have improved data handling with an auto archival process for data protection. They are also compatible with multiple devices, including mobiles, tablets, and web browsers. Additionally, they comply with GIGW/W3C accessibility standards and offer multilingual support.

Kejriwal emphasized that the need for the new technology was realized during the Covid-19 pandemic when the state government announced initiatives that caused the websites to crash due to high traffic load. He further expressed the Delhi government’s commitment to incorporating technology, particularly artificial intelligence, in order to enhance public services and benefit the people of Delhi.

Kailash Gahlot, the IT minister, applauded the launch of the websites as a commendable step towards improving public service delivery. Some of the departments whose websites were inaugurated include the transport and public works departments.

Gahlot explained that the increasing demand for government services online had made it challenging to maintain the websites due to outdated technology and servers. This resulted in frequent outages and breakdowns. He affirmed the government’s dedication to providing a user-friendly experience and ensuring the best possible service to the citizens of Delhi.

Other features of the new websites include effective search engine optimization, informative interfaces, consistent page layouts, visually appealing designs, and customization options.

According to a senior official, the new web portals will also generate notifications if content is not regularly updated. If a department fails to update its content, the portal will immediately alert the department head and IT officials.
